Serendipity= Intuitional Breadcrumbs
I’ve been exploring the idea of serendipity for quite some time now. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition is “the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.” I love this word. Something about the energy of how it bounces off the tongue makes me want to redefine it for myself as, “an occurrence and development of events that are nothing short of miraculous.”
Why is it important to redefine it as miraculous versus something that happens by chance? When we interpret something as happening by chance, we place ourselves as the observer. We outsource our agency. Whereas, if we interpret the same instance as miraculous, choice is available to us. We can choose to feel into the moment. We allow ourselves to feel awe and gratitude and with those feelings, we can feel supported.
It’s like the seed of an idea coming out of seemingly nowhere, that rolls around in our minds for some time before it’s finally ready to be born into the world in form. Or the seed of a plant, that sticks to its parent for weeks before a strong enough wind or sticky enough animal comes along to whisk it away to new adventures and developments.
These things don’t happen by chance. They are the natural progressions of previous conditions and choices. And they happen whether we notice them or not. But in the moment of noticing and delighting in them, we attune ourselves to the seemingly small miracles and open ourselves to increasingly greater miracles.
It can be a small miracle like a bird catching your attention and allowing yourself to pause and take in the moment. For me, it sometimes looks like an internal nudge to take a different path home than I usually do. Maybe I avoided traffic or maybe not. I’ve found that listening to these moments and drinking them in with gratitude opens me up to more and more of them.
As I’ve practiced noticing these moments more and more, I’ve experienced even greater miracles. One example occurred a few weeks ago when I was driving to the doctor for a routine visit. My thoughts drifted onto someone I had recently met and had a conversation with. I got a nudge to call her and share with her one of the tools I had been using to ally myself with my body. I had to leave her a message because she didn’t answer right away. But when I came out of my appointment, she had called me back. When I finally connected with her to share why I had called, she shared that she had recently become aware of a similar practice and it had a profound effect on her. She had been pondering it ever since and was curious to learn more.
This is the process of tuning into intuition, one moment at a time. The more we listen and act on the nudges from our intuition, the clearer it speaks to us.
You deserve to experience miracles regularly and expand your joy in the process. Try it and let me know how it goes. Feel free to send me your questions, if you struggle with it. I’m here for all of it.
