Dharma’s Call can be Obvious

She’s been struggling recently.

Something deep inside wants to be found and healed.

And yet she floats on a grey, waveless sea

with fog around obscuring all the eye can see.

Parts inside vie for control.

Through food and smoke they jockey for a hold,

Arguing and passing the buck until

She’s stuffed and stoned, frozen, standing still.

Paralyzed by fear of hoping too much.

Though down deep inside there’s a voice whose hunch

Will lead her on the path in the very direction which

Her Destiny lies, always an inch from the ditch

Will she take the low road or high?

Will she pluck up the courage to step out and try?

Will she live the life of love and joy to which she aspires?

Will she piece together her future from the past’s thin wires?

Will she make something from nothing, bringing forth what wasn’t there before?

Will others heed her call or will they keep clawing and paying for more and more?

“Why does it have to be me?” part of her asks in despair.

“Why do I have to do it?  Why do I have to care?”

She sobs to the Skies, she pleads to the Trees.

They all just smile knowingly, alert to her pleas.

Yet, they listen and smile, knowing all the while

She has what she needs, she has her own style

Of living this journey, each lesson another turn of the road.

Part water in the River, whose running waters flowed

Below her wood spirit in Tree, nourished, drinking slow

On Earth Mother’s mountain from where her people go.

All the pieces come together to form the path ahead.

She’s just got to stop spending so much time in her head.

Because when we follow the path of Spirit and Trust

The next step in the path is obvious.
